I am SO excited to announce the launch of a new treatment I am offering at Markham Village Naturopathic. As some of you might have read in my last article, the benefits of micro-needling are endless. Micro-needling is just that, the process of using a very fine needle to create tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin. These wounds or micro traumas to the skin stimulate the natural repairing action of the body, whereby cell turnover is increased and collagen and elastin production is stimulated.
Due to these benefits, we have decided to introduce an automated micro-needling device, the MicroPen® Elite. This is a relatively new innovation in cosmetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and the improvement of the skin's texture, tone and colour.
During this procedure, our device is used to create controlled micro-injures to the skin in order to improve the production of collagen and elastin. As your body and skin repair, this results in a thicker epidermis with a softer appearance of wrinkles and can prevent the signs of aging.
In addition, this treatment creates very small micro-channels which allow any topical gels, masques, creams and serums that are applied during your treatment to be absorbed more effectively. As we learned in my last article, only about 4-8% of topically applied products are absorbed, however if applied after micro-needling, this number increases significantly so as to give you maximum benefit, and improve the deeper layers of the skin. Other benefits include: minimal downtime, minimal discomfort, and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, photo aging and stretch marks. What is automated Micro-Needling?
Automated micro-needling is an innovation in aesthetics for the treatment of the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and the skin's texture, tone and color.
What are the benefits?
Reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, improved skin tone and texture and softer, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. MicroPen® Elite can help improve the appearance of hyper-pigmentation as well as uneven skin tone, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks.
What areas of the body can I treat?
MicroPen® Elite can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
How is the procedure done?
A sterile tip containing 12 tiny micro-tips is attached to the Eclipse MicroPen® Elite. We then select the appropriate treatment pen settings based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
What does it feel like?
The feeling associated with the Eclipse MicroPen® Elite is similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin.
How long does the procedure take?
Our treatment will take a total of 60 minutes to ensure your comfort and the most effective application of before and after-care products.
What is the downtime?
Immediately after the treatment, you may notice a bright redness to the skin. On average, patients some irritation for 2-4 days afterwards. Some patients heal completely in 24 hours.
When will I see the results?
Patients notice an immediate "glow" to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed for optimal results can be different from person to person. Most people will require 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart with a follow-up treatment 6-8 weeks later.
